Christ OrphanageChrist Orphanage, in Wegbe, Ghana, was founded by Raymond Attrah in January 2007 to meet the growing and urgent demand to look after orphans and underprivileged children in his local community. His goal was to give them a home, a loving environment and an education - basic needs that all children around the world should take for granted.
Raymond is a teacher by profession but chose to give up his career to dedicate himself to these children in need. Unable to turn a child away, and relying only on his own meagre finances and small donations from the community, the number of children needing his help quickly grew to 41. The orphanage also provides schooling, offering a free education to those in the community who can't afford to attend local education. He caters for an additional 109 children in the school bringing the total cared for by Christ to 150 children.
Just as importantly, the children at Christ Orphanage receive three meals a day, which is, unbelievable as it may sound, something they would not get at home.
The facilities and Raymond's finances have been stretched to breaking point. Some of the children sleep in the school with at least five to a mattress, some are cared for by extended family and some are taken in by the caring in the community.
As it stands, Christ Orphanage is not an environment in which you or I would leave our children for ten minutes.
19 simple projects will change that.
The purpose of Christ Orphanage Fund is to ensure that these 19 projects are completed by Christmas 2012. It is also to ensure that the day to day running costs of the new facility can be met.
